The English for Sciences II course is designed to equip students with the advanced language skills necessary to excel in their graduate studies and succeed in the English-speaking academic and scientific environment. Through a combination of interactive activities, and reading, writing, and speaking exercises, this course focuses on enhancing students´ language proficiency, critical thinking, and academic communication abilities.

Course Objectives
 

• Develop advanced reading and comprehension skills for academic texts, including research articles and journals.
• Enhance writing skills by mastering academic vocabulary, sentence structure, and paragraph coherence, leading to well-structured text production.
• Foster critical thinking and analysis through discussions, and critical response assignments
• Refine speaking skills for academic purposes, including the ability to present research findings and chair seminar discussions
• Strengthen grammar and syntax proficiency to ensure precise and accurate communication in both written and spoken contexts.
• Cultivate research skills, such as paraphrasing, summarizing and citation, to adhere to proper referencing guidelines.

• Reading sessions to understand data, interpret it, and compile information for  evaluation and data commentaries
• Listening sessions to enhance skills relating to lectures, and reprocessing information extracted from these
• Writing critical responses
• Peer review of writing to analyze and discuss texts, and develop critiquing skills
• Group seminar discussions on contemporary academic topics to foster critical thinking and improve oral communication skills.
• Regular grammar and vocabulary exercises, tailored to address common challenges faced by non-native English speakers.
