Food Sciences and Agricultural Sciences are research-intensive fields. With most scientific publications written in English, knowledge of field-specific language has become essential in order to be able to compete in academia. This specific academic English workshop is intended for students who are studying Agricultural Sciences or Food Sciences and would like to improve their language skills in their field of study.

Course objectives:

Students who successfully complete this workshop:

  • broaden their agricultural and food science terminology base
  • improve their accuracy and fluency skills when conversing in both formal and informal settings
  • improve listening and reading skills
  • improve writing skills
     

This workshop is suitable as preparation for the ERAMUS programme or similar study placement abroad. Students taking this course reported that it provided the opportunity for exploring and articulating ideas in a small, supportive group. The workshop is aligned with levels B2 ´Independent User – Vantage´ and C1 or ´Proficient User – Advanced´ of the CEFR or GeRS.
